He’s been featured in Plein Air Magazine, Watercolor Artist, and Southwest Art Magazine. Recent honors include receiving signature status with the National Watercolor Society and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America. He lives in Cold Spring, MN with his wife Mallory, sons Jack (9) and Drew (7), and daughter Emma (5)

Work may be framed or matted so that it can be displayed on an easel. If you have an easel, floor or table style, PLEASE bring it. Artist OpportunitiesCris Gordy’s Oceanside Beach watercolor was accepted and sold at the open show of the Thousand Oaks Arts Association in May 2026. Juror and Judge was Mike Hernandez.

Dr. Suzanne Coulter
Arcadia, CA
Suzanne has a fine arts minor and Education Major in college. Since retiring she had been trying to improve her drawing and painting skills, for her it is a meditation. She paints in watercolor.
She is interested in collaboration energy and as a beginner is only 5 years into this journey. She is hoping for growth.

Louise Frogley
Los Angeles CA
Louise had an early career as a textile designer in the UK and later became a film costume designer in the USA. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in the UK.
Louise likes working in gouache and watercolor. She is joining MVAL to learn more about the arts movement in California and to meet interesting painters and artists.
Joan Dooley

Joan has a B.A. in English and Art and a Masters in Art History. She was a curator at the Getty Museum for12 1/2 years before becoming an inner-city art teacher for LAUSD, focusing on media arts.
Her main mediums are drawing and watercolor. In retirement she is studying portrait and figure
drawing at Art Center College of Design. She hopes MVAL will bring comradely and learned painting skills.
