MVAL General Meeting - Next meeting is Wed. Apr. 15 -7:30 PM. ​
​It is a combination in-person and virtual meeting.

PLAYING TO LEARN  Demonstration by Paul Wang

Paul is a Singapore-based art and design educator whose practice moves seamlessly between teaching and making. For over 25 years, the classroom has been both his studio and his stage—each lesson a space for play, discovery, and the unfolding of creative curiosity.

​A pristine clean sheet of watercolour paper can often feel very intimidating —no matter its size. When the weight of that blankness makes my hands tremble and my thoughts tighten, I turn to play. To play is to trust your hands before your mind catches up. To let go, and to follow where wonder leads. Watercolour is my companion in this dance—fluid, unpredictable, endlessly responsive.
Through his workshops and international art retreats, he invites students and educators alike to loosen control, trust the process, and find joy in playing. Rooted in his training in interior architecture and stage design, Paul’s artistic language is richly layered and highly choregraphed. His lines weave and wander, while bursts of colour dance across the surface—gestural, spontaneous yet deliberate. Each piece reveals itself slowly, like a performance built in acts, where structure and improvisation coexist in quiet tension.
​A Daniel Smith brand ambassador and dedicated Urban Sketcher, Paul currently serves on the organization’s Advisory Board, continuing to shape and contribute to a global community of sketchers.

MVAL Anniversary Member’s Exhibit
​Millard Sheets Gallery Sept. 19 - Oct. 3

​We are happy to announce that our MVAL Anniversary Member’s Exhibit will be returning to the Millard Sheets Gallery at Fairplex, Pomona. The show will be EARLY in our next year’s schedule, due to the gallery’s prior commitments later in the year. Yes, 2 shows in 1 year!!
Exhibit dates: September 19th through October 3rd
Art take in: September 13th
Watercolor artist, Frank Eber, is our show judge, and will also be an in person presenter and workshop artist.
Details are still being worked out. You will be getting more info, a prospectus and other details during July and August (our “summer break” months). So take this as a not so gentle reminder to keep your brushes in action, making this the best show ever!

Mid-Valley Art League welcomes new members to join us.  As artists, we find inspiration in being with other artists. We share ideas and enjoy being with like-minded individuals.  We learn from each other and need art in our lives. Join us if you wish, but for sure,  keep making art!

Dr. Suzanne Coulter
Arcadia, CA
Suzanne has a fine arts minor and Education Major in college. Since retiring she had been trying to improve her drawing and painting skills, for her it is a meditation. She paints in watercolor.
She is interested in collaboration energy and as a beginner is only 5 years into this journey. She is hoping for growth.
Louise Frogley
Los Angeles CA
Louise had an early career as a textile designer in the UK and later became a film costume designer in the USA. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in the UK.
Louise likes working in gouache and watercolor. She is joining MVAL to learn more about the arts movement in California and to meet interesting painters and artists.
Joan Dooley
Arcadia, CA
Joan has a B.A. in English and Art and a Masters in Art History. She was a curator at the Getty Museum for12 1/2 years before becoming an inner-city art teacher for LAUSD, focusing on media arts.
Her main mediums are drawing and watercolor. In retirement she is studying portrait and figure
drawing at Art Center College of Design. She hopes MVAL will bring comradely and learned painting skills.
