Locations of MVAL Thursday in Plein Air group painting opportunities.
Meet at the designated location at 9:00am and paint till 12:00. At noon we gather for lunch and sharing of sketches and paintings. After lunch is the critique/share. The critiques are informative and instructional. In the event of rain the paint-out will be canceled. We have done our best to give accurate directions. Since we are based in San Gabriel, our directions stem from there. It is each person’s responsibility to carry a map, GPS, or double check directions. FEB 5 - LA Arboretum
301 N. Baldwin Blvd. Arcadia, CA 91007 Traveling east or west on the 210 Fwy take the Baldwin Ave. exit and go south. There is an entrance to your right into parking lot of the Arboretum. Your choice to paint anywhere inside. We will meet at Peacock Cafe at around 12 noon for lunch. FEB 12 - Pasadena City Hall 100 N. Garfield Ave. Pasadena, CA 91101 Parking meters & lot on Ramona. Meet at front near Robinson statues. Can paint or sketch the main building or inside the courtyard. Restrooms inside. FEB 19 - Arroyo Seco, Altadena Arroyo Seco. CA 91001 Traveling north on the 210 Fwy. Take the N. Windsor Ave. off ramp. Turn right, then go through the intersection at Woodbury Ave. and continue north on Windsor until you come to Ventura St. TURN LEFT at the stop light onto the narrow Explorer Road that takes you down into the large Arroyo Seco parking area. Park well BELOW the Gabrielino Trail entrance. Meet near the ponds just west of the lot. Go easy on the coffee, the Arroyo Seco area has no bathrooms. FEB 26 - Horsethief Canyon Park, San Dimas 301 Horsethief Canyon Rd. San Dimas, CA 91773 After you turn on San Dimas Canyon Road, turn left at the first street which will take you back to the parking area near the dog park and restroom building. Nice hillside views, horse stables, plenty of places to sit in the shade. MARCH 6 - Kirsten Court, Sierra Madre Sierra Madre Blvd & Baldwin, Sierra Madre, CA 91024 Meet at the corner of Baldwin and Sierra Madre Blvd. in downtown Sierra Madre near Kersting St. opposite Baldwin Jewelers. Quaint shops to sketch or paint in watercolors or gouache on art sketch pads (no oil painting please!) More parking located behind buildings along Mariposa Ave. Lunch spots close by. MARCH 12 - Montrose Community Park 3529 Clifton Pl. Glendale, CA 91208 From Verdugo Rd, turn left at Broadview Dr. then right on Clifton Pl. Follow road into parking lot. Views of Montrose and La Canada including San Gabriel mountains. Restrooms available. |
MARCH 19 - Recreation Park of Monrovia
600 S. Shamrock Ave. Monrovia, CA 91016 Paintout near Boys & Girls Club building located inside the Recreation Park of Monrovia. Take the Mountain Ave. exit off the 210 Fwy. Turn left & head north into Monrovia. Turn left at Royal Oaks Dr. to Shamrock Ave. Recreation park to your right. Easy-free street parking. Attractive park with large shade trees and views of the neighborhood & mountains MARCH 26 - Lizzie’s Trail Inn, Sierra Madre 167 Mira Monte Ave. Sierra Madre, CA 91024 Take Baldwin Ave. exit off the 210 fwy. Head north on Baldwin then right onto E. Mira Monte Ave. Lizzie’s located near Mt. Wilson trailhead & Churchill Rd. APRIL 2 - Brand Library 1601 W. Mountain St. Glendale, CA 91105 Take the 134 Fwy west, Exit at Pacific Ave. turnoff and turn right. Turn left at W. Glenoaks Blvd. and then right on Grandview St. Head north and enter Brand Library entrance at 1601 Mountain St. Parking area left of the building. Restrooms open at 11:00 am in library APRIL 9 - Arlington Gardens 275 Arlington Dr. Pasadena, CA 91105 Exit 210 or 134 Fwys at Orange Grove. Travel south to Arlington Dr. and turn left. Park along street. Garden is on the corner of Arlington Dr. & Pasadena Ave. Portable toilet on grounds. APRIL 16 - Glendale Forest Lawn 1712 South Glendale Ave. Glendale, CA 91205 Meet at the very top of the cemetery where the museum is located opposite the church. Can paint in courtyard area or outside lawn area near parking lot. APRIL 23 - Desiderio Neighborhood Park 10 North Arroyo Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91105 Exit 134 Frwy at Orange Grove. Go thru intersection to Holly St. Turn left on S. Arroyo Blvd. Park is located on the left side right under Colorado St. Bridge. Parking & restrooms inside. Can also park on Westminster Dr. Orange Poppies located near south side entrance. APRIL 30 - Descanso Gardens 1418 Descanso Dr. Flintridge, CA 91011 Botanical garden. Opens at 9 am. Fee at entrance gate. Open to paint anywhere inside. Meet later & have lunch at patio/cafe around 12 noon. |
